The presence of a birth doula can help ease the pain of labor, lessen complications and reduce the amount of interventions used in labor and delivery. Most partners agree that the addition of a birth doula to the birth team is invaluable.

As your birth doula, I provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support to you and your family before, during and just after childbirth. This is achieved through my confidence in your instinctual ability to give birth and respect for your path to parenthood. During your labor and the birth of your child, I will offer calm inspiration and suggest various comfort measures/relaxation techniques such as breathing, massage, water therapy and position changes. If you have studied a particular childbirth education method, I honor your commitment to intensive study and support you in your desires during labor and birth.

My birth services include:

• 2 prenatal visits (lasting from 2-3 hours each) where we brainstorm on birth planning, discuss any questions or concerns regarding the birth process, a demonstration of possible labor/delivery positions and pain management strategies, and exploration of your own emotional process leading to birth.
• Access to my extensive lending library. If you are looking for a book or DVD, please ask.
• I am on-call for you 24/7 two weeks prior to your estimated due date and two weeks after.
• When baby day arrives, I will support you through early labor at home or meet you at your preferred hospital or birthing center. I will be with you through the birth of your child and 1-2 hours after to help you initiate breastfeeding and get you accustomed to your new family.
• Birth photography slideshow on DVD and an additional photo CD so that you can print pictures or post online.
• 1 postpartum visit in the first 2 days at your birthing place (schedule permitting).
• 1 postpartum visit within 6 weeks of your baby's birth. At that time, we will have the chance to discuss your birth story, look at the pictures/slideshow, and go over any other questions you may have.
• I am always available by phone or email for additional support, prenatally and postpartum.
